Trainings & Classes

AJC offers Know Your Rights trainings throughout the year.

Twice a year we present a non-legal course aimed at interrupting patterns of abuse and equipping folks with skills to create healthy relationships. This 6-week course is called the Relationship Skills Class (RSC).  We occasionally adapt the RSC curriculum to suit clients’ needs, including a lunch break crash course and weekend retreats.  Information about all these classes will be posted below.

Whether you heard of it through friends or via our Facebook page, this is where you can apply to study relationship skills that can help change how you relate not only with intimate or romantic partners, but also your friends, families and acquaintances.

The Arkansas Justice Collective's relationship skills class (RSC) is a six-week course that lets participants practice some of the skills useful for healthy relationships.  Few schools, parents or mentors have passed down healthy relationship skills, and yet we believe that it is possible to build the relationships we want. To move us toward a culture of healthy relationships, we are using much of the curriculum created by The NW Network in Seattle; and topics will include: identifying values, accountability, expectations and negotiation, boundary setting, strengthening support networks, and more.

Patrick Yang and Stephen Coger co-facilitate the RSC at least twice a year, though the December 2019 class will be facilitated solely by Stephen.

Patrick Yang is a queer social worker and recent transplant from Austin. He has six years' experience working in a variety of areas, including trauma, HIV, LGBTQIA+ youth, homelessness, substance use, child abuse, and intimate partner violence. Stephen Coger is a queer artist and attorney. As a student of the Relationship Skills Class, Stephen recognized the value of the curriculum to increase positive connections and decrease intimate partner violence.

If you would like to apply for the class, please complete all the fields below.  Please note that 100% attendance is strongly encouraged; and, if you have a conflict with more than one class, please do not apply so that someone else can have the fullest experience.  The total cost of the 2 weeks is $20; but, if you cannot pay, just let us know and if you are selected for this series, someone else will sponsor you.

You will need to be able to arrive five minutes early for class to sign in and get situated.  Class begins at 3:30 PM and will go until just after 6 PM, on Sunday December 15 and Sunday December 22.  The class is open to all ages, though some topics may be a bit mature for people under 16. The venue is wheelchair accessible.  The location is TBD but will be in Springdale or Fayetteville.

Please note that the class size is limited to 10. Since more people apply than are able to attend, if you are not selected for the Winter 2019 class, then please apply again for future courses.
